1000 days until the World
Championships in Lahti 2017
FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
Lahti 2017 - Lahti 2017
1000 days before the opening of the FIS Nordic World
Ski Championships in Lahti 2017 the organizers are
working on a new look, that will be published in
August, and a concept with which nearly half a million
spectators shall be attracted to the event. The
project has a budget of 15 - 20 million Euro.
"This is an admission fee driven project. We
recognize that our brand is currently not in the
condition that we could rely on that income, therefore,
our first focus is on it", says Janne Leskinen,
Secretary General of the World Championships. "We
want to involve the new generation. The time prior
to the event must be used in building images and
a phenomenon around snow sports. We want to create
a story that speaks to the new customers, who are
always harder to get involved. Of course we can
not forget the old country skiing dedicated fans".
The World Championships from February 21st to March
5th 2017 are also of major importance for tourism.
An income of 50 million Euro is estimated for the
Lahti Region. Therefore it's especially important
for the organizers to create an experience that
combines emotion, great service and ease of use.
"The World Championships reach new target groups
from the international markets and offer an opportunity
to Finland and Lahti area for international visibility,
which if properly developed supports the growth
of attractiveness and tourism of Finland and the
region. Such as the international TV visibility
means hundreds of millions of TV viewers around
the world", comments the Managing Director
of Lahti Region, Raija Forsman.
