The Italian Nordic Combined squad will start into the new season with the first training camp starting May 20th till May 24th. The A and B teams consisting of the athletes Alessandro Pittin, Armin Bauer, Samuel Costa, Mattia Runggaldier, Lukas Runggaldier, Manuel Maierhofer and Raffaele Buzzi will make their first summer jumps on the hills in Tarvisio and also in the Austrian town of Villach together with the special jumping team.
Responsible for the Nordic Combined athletes are head coach Jochen Strobl, Finnish jumping coach Kimmo Savolainen and Pietro Frigo.
Not with the team anymore is Guiseppe Michielli who decided to retire at 29 years of age. After three Olympic and four World Championship starts and 198 World Cup competitions, the policeman decided to call it quits this spring. "Unfortunately, my motivation has gone missing in the last months. I was lucky to be able to experience these past moments with my teammates Pittin, Bauer, Runggaldier and others who have gotten so strong in the World Cup. I would like to thank the Federation for giving me the opportunity to race and all the coaches and teammates who have shared the joys and sorrows with me over the years", Michielli said.
