Klimov wins PCR in Lahti - FIS/Silke Tegethof

After his home Olympics, Russia's Evgeniy Klimov has not lost anything of his star power in the jumping part and won today's PCR in Lahti. With a strong jump of 123 metres and 118.3 points, he topped the results list ahead of Olympic Champion Eric Frenzel (115.5 p.) and Austria's Christoph Bieler (112.5 p.).

Frenzel was impressed with Klimov's performance on the jumping hill: "We know that he is in a very good jumping shape. Let's hope that he will get a little bit better in the cross-country part for the next season and we will have a new strong Nordic Combined athlete from Russia", he said after the PCR.

With his jump, Klimov spent large parts of the round in front of the leader board and will go out on the cross-country track 11 seconds ahead of Frenzel should the PCR have to be used in case of bad weather conditions. Bieler would follow 23 seconds later.

Local heroes Eetu Vähäsöyrinki and Ilkka Herola both showed strong jumps, placing them in the Top Ten on ranks five and eight, 30 and 39 seconds after Klimov. Austria's Wilhelm Denifl and Sepp Schneider also found their way into the Top Ten, ranking fourth and eighth (a joint rank with Herola). Norwegian jumping expert Haavard Klemetsen did not disappoint as well and would start the cross-country part from rank six, 34 seconds after Klimov.

12 Athletes were not making it through the qualification. Among them were Junior World Champion Philipp Orter, Norway's Ole Martin Storlien and Truls Johansen and Americans Taylor Fletcher, Nick Hendrickson and Adam Loomis as well as France's Hugo Buffard and Nicolas Martin.
