A strong group of veterans highlights the 2014 U.S.
Nordic Combined Ski Team, named on the cusp of the
2013-14 FIS World Cup season. World Champions and
Olympic medalists Billy Demong and Todd Lodwick
highlight the team. They are joined on the A team
by the rapidly rising Fletcher brothers, Bryan and
Taylor.
"We are focused squarely on doing well at the
Olympics in Sochi. We have a different team than
in 2010 and replacing Johnny [Spillane] and Brett
[Camerota] has been difficult. But the Fletcher
brothers have stepped up and filled the void. Combine
that with the two veterans, Billy and Todd, and
we feel like we have as good a chance for success
in Sochi as anyone.", head coach Dave Jarrett
said on the composition of his team.
With four time Olympian and gold medalist Billy
Demong and five time Olympian and World Champion
Todd Lodwick, the team amasses a total eight Olympic
and World Championship medals, including four gold.
Freshly minted national champion Bill Demong is
optimistic for the Olympic season: "The Team
is a mix of veterans as well as up-and-coming athletes
like the Fletcher brothers who have made quite a
name for themselves. Under that we have a really
strong team of young athletes who are nipping at
our heels for a Sochi spot. So it should be a great
season!"
The World Cup team will be joined by head coach
Dave Jarrett and Marc No"lke as jumping coach,
as well as the service team, consisting of Andrej
Jezers(ek and Matjaz Dobrovoljc.
Greg Poirier will act as Development and Continental
Cup coach, being responsible for the B-Team athletes
Brett Denney, Nick Hendrickson, Adam Loomis and
Michael Ward.
