The 2013 Forum Nordicum, the traditional meeting
of the ‘Union of Nordic Ski Journalists’ which is
part of the AIPS (‘Association de la Presse Sportive'),
was held in Ankaran (SLO) from 13th – 15th October
2013.
Ankaran is located nearby Planica, which has played
host to the FIS Ski Flying World Championships six
times since 1972 and is also a regular World Cup
destination for Ski Jumping and Ski Flying competitions.
Around 80 representatives of the media, ski industry,
Local Organising Committees and the Nordic ski sports'
governing bodies FIS and the IBU (Biathlon) gathered
for the traditional season opening ‘question and
answer’ session.
Included on the agenda was the FIS day on Tuesday,
15th October where FIS representatives led by the
three Nordic Race Directors Walter Hofer (Ski Jumping),
Pierre Mignerey (Cross-Country) and Lasse Ottesen
(Nordic Combined) updated the delegates on the upcoming
Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, in addition to the
World Cup seasons.
All three disciplines now have a season highlight
event outside the Olympics in 2014. The Tour de
Ski and Four Hills Tournament are well known to
Nordic fans, but joining the mix will be the “Nordic
Combined Triple”, which will be a three-day event
that crowns the King of Nordic Combined skiing after
a tough series of three events.
It was also with a heavy heart that FIS congratulated
Forum Nordicum Coordinator Uwe Jentzsch of Germany
on his retirement from organising the event. Walter
Hofer presented Jentzsch with a small token of FIS’
appreciation to his many years of service to Forum
Nordicum and the Nordic skiing world.
The next Forum Nordicum will be held in Falun (SWE),
host of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in
2015.
