Training camp & COC in
Lillehammer for Lamy Chappuis & Co
While the French World Cup team skipped the Nordic
Combined Summer Grand Prix this year, visitors of
the ski jumping Continental Cup in Lillehammer were
in for a pleasant surprise this weekend as all members
of the Val di Fiemme gold squad, including triple
World Champion Jason Lamy Chappuis were starting
in Norway.
"We planned to go to Planica but the jumping
hills are not open yet. Then I heard that our special
jumpers were not going to the COC in Lillehammer,
so here we are! We stayed one week for a training
camp and to compete in this special jumping event,"
French head coach Etienne Gouy explains.
While the results did not look so good in the first
competition on Saturday where no one of the team
made it into the second round (Lamy Chappuis 35.,
Lacroix 45., Laherute 55., Braud 63.), things started
to light up in the second competition on Sunday
which admittedly had to be finished after only one
round of jumping due to strong wind.
Francois Braud finished 21st with a jump of 124
metres (winner Marinus Kraus jumped 132 m), Jason
Lamy Chappuis claimed another 35th rank (121,5 m).
Maxime Laheurte had 120 metres to show for which
gained him an 44th rank and Sebastien Lacroix ended
up on rank 54.
Nevertheless, Etienne Gouy was satisfied with the
training week in Norway and praised the local organisers:
"This place is just perfect for training! Everything
is well prepared to do high level sport. It's so
easy to be good when you live here!"
