In 1989 the State trainer of
the USSR in Perm region V. A. Salnikov, honoured
trainer of the RSFSR and the director of Lysva Sportschool
N. P. Vaganov and the general director assistant
of Lysva's metallurgical plant B. P. Pishalnikov
offered to hold veterans' championship in Russia
in spring-board jumping and Nordic combined. Russian
Federation and Lysva's local administration supported
the suggestion.

According to joint resolution
of the Russian Federation (president V. F. Slavsky)
and the Perm Region Committee of Physical Culture
and Sport, such competitions must be held every
year in Perm Region. Since 1990 to 2000 -11 championships
had being held (10 - in Lysva, 1 - in Perm). Sportsmen
from different cities of Russia and Russian republics
participated in them.
Since 1998 the championships for sport veterans
has been taking place in different countries. Sportsmen
from 10-12 countries (sometimes more then 300 persons)
participate in them. In 1991, 1994, 2000 they took
place in Norway, 1990, 1996 - in the USA, 1993 -
in Finland, 1995 - in Poland, 1992, 1997 - in Sweden,
1998 - in Russia, 1999 - in Estonia. Russian sportsmen
took part in 8 World veterans championships and
won 68 gold medals, 52 silver medals, 50 bronze
medals. The following sportsmen got the most number
of medals: S. Tchhervyakov, A. Tchistyakov, L. Komarov,
L. Vologzhanin, V. Kolpakov, B. Shvetsov, B. Bobkov,
Mukhortov, V. Frolov.

In 1998 the 9th World Championship
took place in Russia - in Perm (the 1st of March,
teams competitions), in Lysva (from the 2nd till
the 8th of March, personal competitions). Sportsmen
from 8 countries took part in the championship:
the USA, Canada, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Estonia,
Germany and Russia. More than 70 sportsmen of different
ages from 30 till 84 were presented.
More than 50 thousand spectators attended the competitions
in Perm and Lysva. Various entertainments were organized
for the participants, all teams and participants
were awarded with memorable gifts and prizes specially
made for it. The Russian team (Perm sportsmen included
also) won the 1st place. The competitions were perfectly
organized by organizing group with V. G. Morozov,
N. I. Malyshev, V. F. Fionina, S. I. Vinokurov.
